Access Auditing + Statements

The purpose of an Access Audit is to establish how  well a building performs in relation to access and ease of use by a wide range of potential users,  including people with physical mobility and  sensory impairments.

Developing Emergency Evacuation Procedures

The aim of a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan  (PEEP) is to provide people who may have problems evacuating the building in an emergency with a personal evacuation plan, based on their special needs.

The term special need should be used in its broadest context by  managers developing these procedures and should include people suffering from Heart conditions, epilepsy, asthma etc., elderly persons and those suffering from temporary disablement such as broken or sprained limbs,  and, in some circumstances, pregnant women.

Reasonable Adjustments

Equality law recognises that bringing about  equality for disabled people may mean changing the way in which  employment is structured and services  for the removal of physical  barriers and/or providing extra support for disabled people. This is the duty to make reasonable adjustments.

The duty to make reasonable  adjustments aims to make sure that, as far as is reasonable, a disabled  person has the same opportunities to succeed in employment as an  non-disabled person and the same opportunities to access services.

Organisations can benefit from training as it will instil confidence in disabled members staff and disabled customers.  Training creates the opportunity for good communication that will help organisations identify effective support methods they can offer to  disabled people accessing their services.

The Building Regulations Part M

Under approved document M reasonable provision shall be made for  people to gain access to and use the building and its facilities. The regulations set minimum legal standards for access and use of the building by disabled people.

Fire Safety.

British standard DD 9999: 2005 code of practice for safety in the design, construction and use of buildings.

The fire risk assessment can be used to assist in  completing the record of significant findings and should include a detailed account of measures which  are in place to facilitate and assist disabled people to leave the building.

The Equality Act (Disability Discrimination Act)

Under reasonable adjustment there is a provision, a legal requirement  that a disabled person can request a personal emergency evacuation plan  for each building and facility they require access to.

The Team at Access and Evacuate offer companies a ' consultancy contracts' to handle disability inquiries,  advice on access issues and a staff training package that is bespoke to  the company.

Access and Evacuate work closely with design and build teams on projects that range across all sectors, these include football stadia, major  shopping centres, airports and large private housing initiatives

New Disability Mediation & Arbitration Services

Access and Evacu8 Mediation Services for businesses and disabled people. Since the loss of the DRC (Disability Rights Commission) there are very limited resources for positive and solutional mediation between companies and disabled people.

Our new service has a free initial consultation for either party (which in most cases settles the dispute) via phone, skype conference or in person at an independent meeting place. (We have our own mediation suite, based in the North west.)

Mike Elkerton MBE has many year experience of successful mediation for large companies, individuals and support organisations and he quotes “I have seen many cases of dispute that can be easily settled yet there seems to be no apparent mechanism for this. I am passionate about building bridges and mediation leads to a more diverse and inclusive society that has a positive impact for all”

Access and Evau8 has a team of five disability officers with over 100 years of experience and expertise in a very diverse sector of business and society.

Our third sector Partner organisations can also be called in to arbitrate complaints and issues and with their added expertise we cover all forms of disability and every sector of business.

If you are a business you can register free and have instant access to first point of call advice.

New Disability Emergency Evacuation Services.

For over twenty years there has been a push to get disabled people access in to buildings and equality in their use; however, there has been a shadow over the evacuation of disabled people during an emergency.

Since 9/11 this has been highlighted with not just consideration during a fire but what to do in an event of a bomb/ terrorist incident. No longer can the solution be to take a disabled person to a refuge area and wait for rescue. The Law is clear, building owners/managers have a duty and responsibility to evacuate ALL People from their building.

Access and Evacu8 ltd have been in the forefront of working with businesses and organisations to address issues, barriers and concerns around the consideration of disabled people during an evacuation. Our expertise and practical solutions have been widely accepted in the business community and we have an exceptional track record as being the ‘go to’ company in this regards.

We offer: disability evacuation building audits, equipment review and recommendations and an in-depth training program on evacuation techniques.
